About Us
The beginning of Longview Missionary Baptist Church, as taken from the book Twentieth Century Baptist, by Elder H. C. Vanderpool, 1996, and the memories of the churches charter members.
Longview Missionary Baptist Church is the result of a mission effort conducted by God called preaching brethren Johnny Carman, C. L. Russell, and W. E. Hall in an empty house on Smith Street in Gallatin, Tennessee, in the later part of 1958. Also assisting in the mission effort was Elder A. G. Gregory. This mission effort flourished, and saw many lost souls being saved.
In the fall of 1959, the members attending the mission felt led to organize into a church. Salem Missionary Baptist Church, on highway 109 North, outside Gallatin, extended an arm to assist in this work of God's ministry, and New Years Day, 1960, was set as the date for the new churches organization. Longview came into being with 27 charter members, and Elder Elmer Perrigo being called as the first Pastor. The church elected Brother Curtis Dean Driver to serve as the first clerk.
The first church building, seen at the left, was built in 1960 by the members of the church on land purchased from the Methodist's. The first church was located at the corner of Elleta and Spencer Ave in the south/central part of Gallatin Tennessee. The church still resides at this location, although in a newer sanctuary.

In 1972, as the congregation of the church began to grow, members of the church under took the task of building the church building where services are now held. A later addition was the fellowship hall in the rear of the building, where many a good fellowship meal has been prepared and served.
Today Longview Missionary Baptist Church has 182 members from around the world.
